Happy 6769th year of Mesopotamian civilizations !
Akitu..
The oldest annual celebration in Iraq and the rest of the world.
It is the Mesopotamian new year for the Babylonians, the Assyrians and the Chaldeans.
It starts from the first day of April, representing the resurrection of life, represented by the beginning of the spring and is called in the Sumerian language (Ekiti Sinunem) and in the Akkadian language (Reesh shatin) meaning The New Year, the feast lasts for twelve days with its majestic atmosphere and ceremonies to celebrate the renewal of nature and the beginning of a new life and a new year, Akitu is held from the first night of spring (when the night and day are equal) and interspersed with prayers and large religious performances in the form of annual festivals in which the people participate, and priests use models of the gods, as a means of expression only, a parade goes around the city with all its splendor in a great show before the people. To this day, the Iraqi people celebrate some of their festivals on this occasion, candles are lit,  songs are sung, Iraqis wear their folkloric costumes and the past gets connected to the present..
Happy new year to the creators of civilization, the Mesopotamian people .
